You are getting a new song, but to truly get close to how the song felt like you’d need a real Sega Master System / Game Gear, a Sonic Cartridge and a 90’s TV. Most people can’t really do that. The point is: we can’t get 100% close to the original experience.

That being said, if you want to get close to how the songs felt, you could always download chiptunes and set the sound quality to 22Khz (as most TVs by that time had stereo channels at most).

Some people usually remix Sonic tunes because the classic ones are usually too short (around 30 seconds) or to hear them on improved instrumentation. Think of it this way: if someone is remixing a song, it’s probably because it touched to them some way.

Good music doesn’t need to be remixed.
Empty music that is lacking or just isn’t that good might require editation or remixes to make it at least decent.
Sonic music is GOOD and doesn’t need to be messed with.
