Television and video games, do they really rot your brain out?

April 18, 2009 – 11:41 am

I can't say they do, because there are so many good series and shows on right now that they prove television isn't just watching mindless characters fool around for an hour on a screen. I'm enjoying House, Heroes, and the Tudors. These shows are intelligent and they make you think, sort-of. They definitely aren't brain-rotting.

And video games aren't like they used to be. It's not Pong or Mario these days. There are tactical strategy games that make you think seriously about how you play the game, or long, immersive role-players that provide a great story and dialogue. Or vicious first-person-shooters, that require quite a bit of planning and strategy to defeat the enemy AI, even if they are violent.

No, I'm convinced that television and video games aren't stupid or mindless forms of entertainment these days. Anybody agree with me?

Hey, how could one go wrong if you're watching History channel, or Discovery. And now they have "educational" video games. I agree. As long as it's in moderation.
